Interactive Whiteboard
I first began developing my skills using the interactive whiteboard during the first two months of my P.G.C.E. training at Manchester University.
From the taught sessions and my own study, I became confident and capable in using the interactive whiteboard each and every day in the classroom (see the I.C.T. in Schools menu for more details).
I learnt that it is a tool designed to enhance learning and when used effectively it can engage learners, especially visual learners.
Pupils' responses can be recorded and saved for a later lesson. Interactive games can be played with the whole class. Learning objectives and success criteria can be referred back to throughout the lesson. Images can be enlarged, annotated and compared. Previous work/lessons can be loaded back up for reference. Short clips can be quickly played at any point during the lesson to build upon learning. None of this would be possible with an ordinary whiteboard.
The interactive whiteboard is now a staple in most classroom. Pupils grow up with interactive whiteboards in their classroom and are encouraged to use them. During my first placement, any opportunity there was to use the interactive whiteboard, the pupils wouldn't hesitate to put their hands up.
