Podcasting
Podcasting gives pupils a worldwide platform to showcase their work. Recording and editing podcasts builds pupils' confidence and develops their speaking, listening and writing skills in a fun and engaging way.

There are many reasons that podcasting is great for pupils. It gives them a huge audience to publish to, also podcasting isn't just a one off piece of work, it's a series of episodes that provides an incentive to keep producing high quality shows. Secondly, podcasting is a perfect way to distribute learning materials: sounds, images and even video. Podcasting is publishing with a purpose. If pupils understand that there is a reason for making the podcasts, and that someone wants to listen week after week, the content of the podcasts will be of a much higher standard. Thirdly, but not lastly, podcasting is a great way to communicate. Imagine a newsletter, homework or even school reports in the form of a podcast!
It is important to understand that podcasting can be used creatively in all subjects, not just I.C.T. For example in literacy, pupils can record and script, but before they are given the chance to they must first write a script. This gives the pupils encouragement to write their best piece of work so they can have a chance of recording it. It's the excitement of recording something can will be stored online forever and something that all their friends and family can listen to.
Podcasts can also be used during maths plenaries and mini plenaries to allow children to explain their working out. For example, this means that they have to explain the place value columns in column addition, subtraction and multiplication in quite a lot of detail, as there will be no visual go with the audio. This helps build upon the skills of reasoning, explaining and understanding methods. It also helps the method to become embedded in the pupil's mind, whilst other pupils can listen and perhaps get a better understand of a particular method. This encourages pupils to be responsible for each other's learning,
Podcasting is something (with the permission of my school based tutor) that I will be bringing into the classroom on my final placement. With the help of the pupils, I hope to produce a weekly podcast with details of what we have been learning about that particular week, including highlights from pupils and where they want to take their learning next. If this is not possible, once I have my own class as an NQT, I will definitely be helping them to produce podcasts of their own.
