Photostory
Before I started my placement the pupils in my class went on a trip to a place called Staircase House, where they learnt about WW2/. In order to wrap up what they learnt,I decided that the pupils would make a slide show including pictures from their trip. With Photostory you can record audio for each picture. Pupils recorded and spoke about what they were doing in each picture. This allowed specific language to be drawn out such as, topic related language and time connectives. This enabled me to assess what they had learnt. Pupils also included their opinions on how the trip went (as this was the literacy focus for the week).
Using Photostory proved to be an engaging was of creating a recount of the trip. I think this is because pupils had visual stimuli in the form of photos and had the opportunity to tell their own story. It is much more stimulating that producing a written piece of work (however this is still very important). Pupils swapped notebooks and assessed each others Photostories. Assessment was clear for the pupils as they were looking to see if they could follow the story, and the spoken words matched the pictures.
Photostoty can be used for more than school trips. Pupils can also produce for example: video instructions; interactive books and even short films.
